● The short answer
To get mentioned by ChatGPT, make your business easy to find and easy to verify. Let OAI-SearchBot crawl your site, publish clear pages that state what you do, where and for whom, keep your Google and Bing listings accurate, and earn mentions on reviews, directories, press and forums. ChatGPT repeats what the wider web consistently says about you.
Key takeaways
- There is no form or fee that puts your business into ChatGPT answers; it summarizes what it can find and verify.
- Allow OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt, because OpenAI says opted-out sites will not appear in ChatGPT search answers.
- Plain statements of what you do, where and for whom matter more than clever copy.
The short version
ChatGPT does not have a sign-up form for businesses. When someone asks for a recommendation, it either answers from what its model already learned or, more often for local and current questions, it searches the web and summarizes what it finds. Your job is to make sure that when it looks, it finds you, understands you and sees other sources agreeing with you.
The audience is large. OpenAI said in October 2025 that more than 800 million people use ChatGPT every week, and Pew Research found in February 2026 that 44% of US adults say they use it. A growing share of those conversations are "who should I hire" or "where should I go" questions.

Talk to usMore questions
Is GPTBot the same as the crawler that powers ChatGPT search?
No. OpenAI documents GPTBot as the crawler for model training and OAI-SearchBot as the crawler that surfaces sites in ChatGPT search. You can block one and allow the other. If you want to be cited in ChatGPT search answers, OAI-SearchBot needs access. Blocking GPTBot only signals you do not want content used for training.
Does ChatGPT use Google or Bing results?
OpenAI runs its own crawler and also references third-party search providers in its publisher documentation, without spelling out every partner. In practice, being well indexed in both Google and Bing is cheap insurance, because AI assistants draw on several search indexes and the same evidence tends to surface across them.
