Why AI visibility is hard to measure
Search has long had clear metrics: rankings, impressions, clicks. AI assistants have none of that by default. Answers vary by session and user, platforms share little data, and much of the value (being named in an answer someone reads and acts on later) never produces a click. So measurement has to combine direct observation with indirect signals.

Can Google Search Console show AI Overview traffic?
Not separately. Google includes AI Overview and AI Mode traffic within the overall Web search type in the Performance report. You can infer impact by watching queries known to trigger Overviews, but there is no dedicated filter. Bing Webmaster Tools, by contrast, now offers an AI Performance report with citation counts.
What is a good AI mention rate?
It depends on your category and how specific your prompts are. A local business might reasonably aim to appear in most answers to specific local questions, but rarely in broad national ones. Benchmark against direct competitors in the same prompt set; share of voice relative to them is more meaningful than an absolute number.
