● The short answer
AI gives wrong information about a business when its sources are wrong, outdated or conflicting, or when it confuses you with a similar name. You fix it at the source: correct your website, Google and Bing listings and major directories, make the right facts consistent and prominent, earn fresh third-party coverage, then retest. There is rarely a direct correction form.
Key takeaways
- Wrong AI answers usually trace to outdated, conflicting or thin sources, or to entity confusion with a similar name.
- Fix at the source: your website, primary listings, directories and any cited third-party page.
- Live-search answers can update in weeks; errors from training data persist until newer models ship.
Where the errors come from
AI assistants do not invent facts about your business from nothing, although they can fill gaps with plausible guesses. Most errors trace back to one of a few causes:
- Old training data. A model trained on data from a year or two ago may still "know" your old address, a retired service or a previous owner.
- Stale third-party pages. Directories, aggregator sites and old news stories keep outdated hours, phone numbers or descriptions alive, and assistants retrieve them.
- Conflicting sources. If your website says one thing, your Google profile another and Yelp a third, the assistant has to pick, and it may pick wrong.
- Entity confusion. Two businesses with similar names, or a business and a person with the same name, can be merged in an answer.
- Thin information. When little exists about you, a model is more likely to generalize from your category, for example assuming you offer a service most competitors offer.
- Hidden facts. Prices, hours or service areas inside images, PDFs or scripts may not be read at all.

Can I ask OpenAI or Google to correct an answer about my business?
There is generally no business correction form for AI answers. You can use in-product feedback, and for Google you can suggest edits through your Business Profile or a claimed knowledge panel. The most reliable fix is correcting the underlying sources the assistants retrieve, then retesting after they are recrawled.
AI says we offer a service we do not. Why?
This often happens when information about you is thin, so the model generalizes from similar businesses, or when an old page or directory lists that service. State clearly on your services page what you do and do not offer, and fix any directory that lists it.
