AI search & GEO, answered.

Plain answers about getting found and recommended by AI assistants. Part of the Mention Group marketing library.

What is AI search, or GEO?

GEO, Generative Engine Optimization, is the work of getting AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity to mention and recommend your brand inside the answers they write. It is the new layer on top of SEO.

How is GEO different from SEO?

SEO targets a ranked list of links. GEO targets the written answer itself, there is no list to climb, so the engine either includes you or it does not, based on how clearly and credibly your brand reads across the web.

How do I know if AI mentions my brand?

Ask the assistants the questions your customers ask and see if you appear, how you are described, and who is recommended instead. We formalize this with the AI Mention Report, a dated, sourced benchmark you can track.

Can I control what AI says about my brand?

Not directly, you cannot edit the model. But you strongly influence it by improving the signals it reads: clear content, accurate listings, strong reviews, structured data, and credible third-party mentions.

Which AI engines should I care about?

At minimum ChatGPT, Google Gemini and AI Overviews, and Perplexity, with Copilot close behind. Each builds answers differently, so a brand can be strong in one and invisible in another.

What is AEO?

Answer Engine Optimization, making your content the direct answer to a specific question in featured snippets, voice, and AI overviews. It rewards answer-first writing and clean structure.

Does GEO replace SEO?

No. They layer. SEO and a clean, credible site are the foundation AI engines read; GEO is how you turn that foundation into AI recommendations.
