The moment. Valentine's week is a last-minute shopping sprint: flowers, dinners, gifts, all searched the night before.
What changed
On February 12, Google launched checkout inside AI Mode, powered by its new Universal Commerce Protocol. US shoppers could buy from Etsy and Wayfair without leaving the answer, with Shopify, Target and Walmart coming. The same week, Bing Webmaster Tools opened an AI Performance report that counts how often Copilot cites your pages.
Why it matters
The answer is becoming the store. If an AI tool can show a product, compare it and sell it in one screen, the shop with clean product details and a trusted reputation gets the sale. And for the first time, one search engine is telling site owners how often its AI quotes them.
What to do this week
- If you sell online, make sure every product has a clear name, price, photo and stock status that machines can read.
- Sign up for Bing Webmaster Tools and open the AI Performance report. It is free.
- Write down where you would expect to be cited. Next month, compare.
