The moment. March is bracket season and spring-cleaning season. It is also when Google tends to shake up rankings.
What changed
Google began rolling out its March 2026 broad core update in late March. Core updates reweigh how Google judges quality across the whole web, and they usually take about two weeks to settle.
Why it matters
Rankings will bounce while it rolls. Most sites see small moves that undo themselves. The ones that drop for good usually share a pattern: thin pages, copied text, or pages written for search engines instead of people. The same pages tend to be skipped by AI answers too.
What to do this week
- Do not change your site in a panic while the update is still rolling.
- Note your top ten pages' traffic today, so you can compare after it finishes.
- Pick your three thinnest pages and either improve them or merge them into a stronger one.
