Opening Day: win the search near the ballpark (and the click is coming back)

New data shows clicks from AI Overview results recovering. The core update also finished. Good news, with a catch.

The moment. Brewers Opening Day, patios opening, and every restaurant near the ballpark fighting to be the pregame pick.

What changed

Google's March core update finished on April 8. Then on April 27, Seer Interactive published data from roughly 2 billion impressions: organic click-through on searches with an AI Overview rose from 1.3% in December to 2.4% in February. Still below the 3.2% of January 2025, but moving up.

Why it matters

When the AI answer names a source, some people click it to check. The sites that win those clicks are the ones the answer quotes. Being the cited source is now how you earn the click.

What to do this week

  1. Look at your Search Console clicks for March versus April, after the update settled.
  2. Find one question you rank for but are not quoted on, and put a clear, short answer at the top of that page.
  3. If you are a restaurant or bar, make sure your hours and game-day specials are current everywhere.
